I use AntennaPod for podcasts, and that’s connected to for syncing to different devices. There is no easy sync setup that I know of. I use the X5 at work, for listening in the bedroom, and I also will connect it to the receiver in the living room either to play FLACs or to stream (Spotify or Qobuz). So, that solved the controls problem because the phone is accessible. I already had a dash mount for the phone for using navigation. I loaded a 256GB card with my mp3s and a bunch of FLACs. I installed the podcast app I was using on the FiiO on my phone and also the music player app I use (NeutronMP). I solved the car issue by using my phone instead.

It didn’t work out well for two reasons: (1) the bluetooth connection between the two was flaky and it resets every 20 minutes, which is irritating, (2) you lose the built-in controls with the bluetooth dongle, so it’s hard to select something new when the last thing ends if you’re not running long playlists. I bought a bluetooth dongle for my car that connects to the built-in iPod dock. I have about half of my FLAC collection and all of my downloaded mp3 collection (mostly from vinyl download cards) loaded. I replaced the iPod with a FiiO X5-III, which has currently has a 256GB card and 512GB card installed. But I can play tracks on my iPad, which I connect to my receiver. It’s not on a proper NAS, so I can’t run it off my receiver. I also have the collection on a remote storage drive in the basement.

I believe that it’s an Android app, but someone has ported an iOS version. There’s a remote control phone app that I have tried and seems to work well. Although I only use the music player in the room where the computer lives, it can be used that way. On my desktop (running Ubuntu Linux), I have my entire FLAC library. I’m not sure you can quite replicate the experience with newer gear, but I’ll tell what I use and how it works. I re-ripped my CD collection to FLAC in 2017, and then upgraded everything over the next year or so. Over time, iTunes ran worse and worse and the car connection got flakier. I was running iTunes on a Windows 7 laptop with my music library on an external drive. I was running similar until 2017, except for the lossless collection. I'm still searching but it doesn't seem to exist.
Ipod classic gpodder portable#
a portable "device" that I could easily use in my car with the required storage capacity ? iTunes automated compressed lossy synch to "a" storage device/player ?

Quite normal as car manufacturers are not really supporting that old technology anymore. It still works in my car but it hangs, stops.

It becomes more and more difficult to find a working "remote" app for iTunes in my car the iPod classic offers the same thanks to the lossy compression automated by iTunes at home the whole collection is available ALL music collection synched to a 160GB iPod classic -> in my car lossless sound collection stored on Synology I'm using the following set-up for more than 10 years now:
